Layton Tamberlin Biography

Layton Tamberlin, a private investor, was born in Shrewsbury in 1976. He went to Keble College, Oxford and received a master's degree in Mathematics and Philosophy, graduating in 1998. He presently resides in London with his wife and two young children, both under the age of two.

 

Business Background

 

Layton Tamberlin along with Richard Sanders founded Sullivan Street Partners, a company that provides funds of up to £15 million as equity investments to businesses in the UK. Both Mr. Tamberlin and Mr. Sanders are experienced financial and operational experts, and when they take control of a company, they use their energy and expertise to grow that company and seek to realize significant return on their investment.

 

Early Business

 

When Layton Tamberlin began in the financial business, his first role was with the investment bank Merrill Lynch in the UK who hired him to work in corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. Through this position, Layton Tamberlin gained invaluable experience in the area of finance, specializing in the field of mergers and acquisitions. He was involved with and acted as an advisor on several transactions at the bank. Some of those activities included being an advisor to iTouch plc, the acquisition of Forward Publishing by WPP, taking part in the PHS Group plc IPO and playing a role when Gannett acquired Newsquest. Throughout the years that Layton Tamberlin was an employee of Merrill Lynch, the company continually grew and became a market leader in mergers and acquisitions owing a large part of its success to its specialization in underwriting debt, its proficiency in equity securities and in developing unique solutions that address the needs of its global customers.

 

Layton Tamberlin went to work for TDR Capital in 2002, working for the partners Manjit Dale and Stephen Robertson. The company successfully raised over £550 million in their first fund offering, and in 2006 they attracted an additional £2 billion in funds. Layton Tamberlin was a key player in many of the investments and helped with clients that included Pearl, ASK, PizzaExpress, Algeco, Resolution and Williams Scotsman.

 

In 2009 Mr. Tamberlin joined the walk-in clinic Samedaydoctor as its chairman. The clinics offer medical treatment by general practitioners and specialize in cases involving sexual health matters. The clinics have established significant patient numbers, and Samedaydoctor now either manages or owns eight clinics throughout the U.K. In a recent move, the company has taken some of its services online.
